Job Description

Our client, a well-established civil contractor based in the Fraser Valley, specializes in roadworks, underground utilities, earthworks, and site development. They are seeking a Chief Estimator to lead preconstruction and estimating efforts, ensuring accurate cost forecasting, competitive bidding, and strategic project success across public and private sectors.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and oversee all estimating activities, from bid strategy and takeoff to final tender submission.
• Develop and maintain historical cost data, production rates, and subcontractor databases to improve estimating accuracy.
• Provide leadership, mentorship, and technical guidance to the estimating team.
• Analyze drawings, specifications, and contract documents to identify risks, scope gaps, and cost impacts.
• Prepare and review detailed quantity takeoffs, budgets, and cost estimates for civil infrastructure and site development projects.
• Coordinate with project managers and superintendents to validate production assumptions and ensure constructability.
• Negotiate subcontractor and supplier pricing and maintain strong vendor relationships.
• Support project start-up, change order pricing, and value engineering efforts.
• Uphold Health, Safety & Environmental standards in all estimating and planning activities.

Ideal Candidate Requirements:

• Minimum 10 years of estimating experience in civil construction, with 2+ years in a senior or leadership capacity.
• Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
• Expertise in civil scopes including earthworks, underground utilities, roadworks, and site development.
• Proficiency in estimating software such as HeavyBid, Bid2Win, or equivalent, and strong skills in Excel and Bluebeam.
• Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Proven ability to lead teams, manage multiple deadlines, and foster collaboration.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to visit project sites when required.
