OUR OPPORTUNITY

Govan Brown is looking for a dedicated Construction Safety Officer to join their team in Vancouver . In this role, you'll play a key part in ensuring safety standards are upheld on-site, promoting a culture of health and safety, and supporting compliance with regulations. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee the Health & Safety on assigned construction site(s)
  • Coordinate and conduct site safety orientations for subcontractors, weekly toolbox meetings, site safety inspections
  • Monitor the performance of all site trades and ensure they are working in a safe manner, utilizing the proper protective equipment and practices
  • Investigate all injuries, accidents and near misses and identify the causes and recommend required improvements in safety standards
  • Complete all accident/incident reports in a timely manner and ensure accidents are properly reported to all appropriate parties
  • Actively participate as a member of Joint health and safety committees and/or worker trade committees
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of and enforce Occupational Health & Safety regulations and practices
  • Act as a liaison with all stakeholders, including the government, WorkSafe BC, management, subcontractors, clients and workers regarding aspects of health and safety

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 3+ years of experience in construction health & safety
  • Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety
  • Joint Health & Safety certification required.
  • NCSO, CSO, or GSC Gold Seal certification is a strong asset
  • Ground up structural and interior fit out experience
  • Record keeping and capable of maintaining documentation in good order
  • Level 3 First Aid with CPR A + AED
  • Fall Protection training
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Up to date on WorkSafeBC Health & Safety legislation and regulations
  • Strong leadership skills to effectively hold others accountable for working in a safe manner
  • Relationship savvy and interpersonal skills to demand the respect of all stakeholders
  • Commitment to recognizing and mitigating risks
  • Strong negotiation and dispute resolution skills
  • Highly organized and able to effectively manage multiple tasks
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office and Outlook

YOUR COMPENSATION

  • $70,000 - $90,000 annually.

YOUR WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT

  • Your primary work environment will be construction work sites in all seasons .
  • This role is based on-site. This is not a hybrid or remote role.
  • Office location is 900 West Hastings Street, Vancouver with potential for work-related travel.
