Job Description:

Accountabilities:

  • Works independently or cooperatively with team members to complete tasks on schedule and according to quality standards.
  • Cleans sanitizes sweeps dusts mops washes vacuums polishes and waxes floors.
  • Cleans windows mirrors woodwork furniture equipment and other surfaces.
  • Cleans offices kitchen washrooms and all other rooms.
  • Responsible for tracking and record keeping of fridge/freezer temps fire extinguishers etc.
  • Restock supplies of toilet paper paper towels soap and other hygiene items.
  • Empties trash bins and disposes of trash and recycling etc.
  • Cleans sterilizes and/or disinfects all areas and equipment before and after each use.
  • Spot wash accessible walls and spot clean carpets as required.
  • Check doors and windows to ensure building security.
  • Perform more extensive cleaning carpet cleaning stripping and waxing floors and light maintenance during non-peak programming periods.
  • Organize and maintain janitorial supplies in janitorial room and on janitorial cart.
  • Follow established procedures and record-keeping for inventory tracking.
  • Report safety concerns and major repair issues to supervisor or designate.
  • Lift and move furniture as requested (Chairs tables etc.)..
  • Ensure the general upkeep of external property including up-keep of storage shed watering of plants etc.
  • Change the outdoor sign when needed.
  • Support with set up and tear down for programming/rentals.
  • Comply with all prescribed sanitation and building disinfecting protocols.
  • Monitor and maintain stock of regularly used items i.e. mops brooms lights supplies etc. and order/purchases as required.
  • Perform more extensive cleaning carpet cleaning stripping and waxing floors and light maintenance during non-peak programming periods.
  • Perform minor repairs such as electrical (change light bulbs) and plumbing (unblocking toilets troubleshooting flushing issues) wall parch-painting light furniture fixing (tighten screws) reports safety concerns and major repair issues to supervisor.

Health and Safety

  • Contribute to the safety of staff guests customers and clients (e.g. clear fire exits cleans spillage; no obstacles inside/outside the building keeping sidewalks and entrances clear of snow and ice including salting litter pick up etc.)
  • Monitor and maintain mixed cleaner bottles for custodial use. Ensure that all bottles contain WHMIS compliant labeling.
  • Monitor and maintain SDSs ensuring all SDSs are WHMIS compliant.
  • Perform monthly workplace health & safety inspections.
  • Oversee Fire Safety for the facility fire drills fire safety book fire panel
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Armys health and safety policies and procedures.

Perform other related duties as required.

MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL AND LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY :

  • Reports directly to Corps Officer or designate.
  • Direct report for this position: none
  • The incumbent is responsible for his/her own time and effort only. The incumbent may demonstrate work methods to new employees.

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

  • The incumbent may be authorized to spend disburse or collect small amounts of cash.
  • The incumbent has very little input into the annual budget.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This is a regular part time position based on 15 hours per week
  • Schedule may vary from week to week and include both weekdays and weekends.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required.
  • The incumbents work environment is typically in the entire facility and property designated.
  • The incumbent is required to lift/move up to 50 pounds with no assistance from others.
  • The performance of the job requires operating industrial cleaning equipment and tools mopping/sweeping bending/twisting/lifting occasional ladder work and fine motor skills.
  • The performance of the job requires moderate to high attention when handling hazardous chemicals and using non-motorized/general cleaning equipment.

Normal hours of work: Schedule may vary according to operational requirements; flexibility is required; may include split shifts day afternoon and evening shifts Monday through Saturday and includes a ½ hour unpaid meal break where applicable. The supervisor will set the work schedule in consultation with the incumbent.

Education Qualifications and Certifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalency.

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

  • At least two years of prior cleaning experience and at least six months of experience leading a cleaning team.

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Acute attention to detail is essential for food preparation cleaning and safety protocols.
  • Ability to manage time to ensure meal preparation cleaning and other duties are completed in a timely manner.
  • Represent The Salvation Army in a professional positive and engaging manner.

  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $17.61 to $22.01 with a maximum of $26.41.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
