Job Title: Finance Accounting Clerk

Job-Type: Part time 3 days per week

Reports To: Financial Controller – Cove Singapore & Country Head – Cove Japan KK 

Location: Japan 

About the role: 

The Accounting Clerk position is a critical role supporting our accounting functions in Japan. This role includes all full cycle bookkeeping duties including reconciliations of bank and credit cards, consumption tax reporting, and routine monthly/annual reporting. In addition, this role will prepare payments, manage collections and payables, manage cash balances, as well as oversee property reporting and customer related finance enquiries.

We are looking for someone who has many years of managing monthly reporting as well as the day to day operational accounting and book-keeping.

What you'll be doing:

  • Daily bookkeeping duties of the head office and multiple properties including reconciling bank and credit cards, balance sheet account reconciliations and issuing tax invoices to customers, where required
  • Maintains aging system for accounts receivable and accounts payable 
  • Conducts the daily banking activities 
  • Facilitates timely payments of security deposit refunds to customers
  • Liaise with customers regarding financial queries in relation to invoicing enquiries 
  • Monitors and manages company and property cash balances 
  • Oversees property account reconciliations and timelines with the head office finance team 
  • Ensures all documents are recorded and filed appropriately 
  • Complies with and enforces all controls procedures 
  • Supports external accountants with corporation/local tax reporting, payments and compliance 
  • Supports some HR and office administration functions

What makes you a great fit: 

  • 7+ years of experience in full-cycle accounting/bookkeeping is required 
  • Excellent verbal and written English and Japanese communication skills are required
  • Accounting qualification ie CA/CPA is preferred although appropriate experience will be considered 
  • Working knowledge of Japanese accounting regulations and IFRS is preferred
  • Strong ability to problem solve and apply initiative to aid team efficiency and improvement 
  • Demonstrated ability and experience using and adapting to new software and systems is required 
  • Ideally, have experience using international ERP's (Oracle, SAP) or global SME accounting packages such as Microsoft Dynamics GP (formerly known as Great Plains), MYOB, Xero, Quickbooks, etc
  • Detailed orientated and with a focus on attention to detail
  • Able to work in a team and experience working in a matrix reporting environment
