Baytex has an excellent opportunity for a Junior to Intermediate Operations Geologist . This full-time position is located in our Calgary office and reports directly to the Geosciences Manager, Heavy Oil Business Unit.

Responsibilities:

• Work with the geoscience and engineering teams to execute drilling programs, including real time geosteering in collaboration with field teams
• Prepare pre-spud geology packages, including directional plans, progs, and offset data
• Interpret geological and drilling information to optimize well placement and efficiencies
• Compile and present results and learnings to senior staff and management
• Ability and ambition to take on future responsibilities including exploration, long-range planning, land management, enhanced oil recovery projects and corporate reserves

Qualifications / Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Geology, along with 2 to 8 years of relevant work experience
• Wellsite geology or operations background is required, with experience in heavy oil horizontal, multilateral, and strat drilling preferred
• Geosteering experience (remote or onsite) is favored
• Strong knowledge of rig operations, directional drilling, striplogs/Canstrat
• Understanding of wireline well log responses and interpretations
• Ability to clearly and confidently communicate with field and office staff
• Excellent interpersonal and written communication, organization, and analytical skills
• Capability to stay composed, troubleshoot and make critical decisions in unplanned events
• Experience with mapping programs (Geoscout, Accumap) is preferred
• Current status or required qualification for membership in APEGA
