POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting directly to the Indigenous Supported Child Development Coordinator, the Indigenous Infant Development Worker supports parents and caregivers during their children’s early developmental years, from birth to age six. This role works collaboratively as part of the Early Years Department to provide culturally grounded, family-centered support.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Early Childhood Education Diploma or Infant and Early Childhood Development program certificate
  • Minimum of three (3) years of related work experience, including working with children with additional support needs
  • Practical experience working with neurodiverse children and their families
  • Experience collaborating with community and agency professionals in support of Child and Family needs
  • Direct program delivery experience (Family Centred care, early intervention, child development and community-based programming)
  • Experience in working with Indigenous children and families
  • Equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered

REQUIREMENTS

  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search with results acceptable to WFN
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and Acceptable Driver’s Abstract
  • Valid First Aid with CPR Level C
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality and uses discretion on all matters relating to the affairs of the Westbank First Nation and clients

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Coordinates and promotes Family Centred services in partnership with the Indigenous Early Years Outreach Consultant to ensure service delivery in the best interest of the Child and Family
  • Fosters positive working relationships with team members, other staff and community agencies in promoting the common goal of overall well-being for the child and family
  • Works with the Indigenous Early Years Outreach Consultant to be a liaise between families and other support agencies and services
  • Prioritizes and maintains confidentiality on all matters relating to the affairs of Westbank First Nation, clients and client’s records
  • Supports and enhances individualized Child and Family needs as it relates to goals outlined by the Indigenous Early Years Outreach Consultant
  • Supports developmental needs of children 0-6 years of age within Westbank First Nation’s Family Program and Westbank Child Development Centre
  • Upon request of the Indigenous Early Years Outreach Consultant, attends outreach visits within client homes and community in support of developmental assessment/activities and collaboration with supporting agencies
  • Performs other related duties as requested in support of developmental screenings, assessments, activity planning and assisting families to access health, social, cultural and community services.
  • Perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Westbank First Nation Policies and Procedures, and as assigned by the Early Years Manager.

  • Knowledge of the stages of early childhood development
  • Knowledge of working with children with disabilities and their families

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in striving to meet a common goal
  • Ability to develop and maintain a warm, caring, responsive relationship with families, childcare setting staff, child development professionals and colleagues
  • Working knowledge and understanding of trauma-informed, family-centered and inclusive practice
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrate teamwork, maintain positive relationships and leadership skills
  • Ability to use cultural safety framework when working with Indigenous children, families, and communities
