Location: Memorial Hermann Hospital Southwest Campus (Medical Plaza 2)

Medical Billing and Coding is the process of translating medical diagnoses and procedures into codes used in medical records and claims submitted to payers for reimbursement. Billing and coding are actually separate processes that are equally important to the healthcare revenue cycle, ensuring that providers are accurately reimbursed for their services.

Duties: Teaching adult learners how to:
- Review and analyze medical documentation for accuracy and completeness
- Assign appropriate medical codes to diagnoses, procedures, and services
- Ensure compliance with coding guidelines and regulations
- Communicate with healthcare providers to obtain missing or clarifying information
- Process medical claims for reimbursement from insurance companies
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims and resolve billing issues
- Maintain patient records and confidentiality of health information
- Stay updated on changes in medical coding guidelines and regulations

Requirements:
- Strong knowledge of health information management and medical terminology
- Proficiency in documentation review and coding procedures
- Familiarity with anatomy and physiology
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in coding assignments
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
- Effective communication skills to interact with healthcare providers and insurance companies

Seeking strong, high energy medical professional and knowledgeable licensed individual who has a great understanding of medical billing and coding in order to teach the certified medical billing and coding course within a capacity to where adult learners will be able to easily understand and process within a medical training environment; the candidate must be a licensed medical billing and coding specialists or higher degreed medical professional who has taken and completed the requirements to teach this certification program and have related work experience within the field for the past 5 years or more. Also, understands classroom management and great with working with a diverse group of individuals with the health care industry being a focus. Looking to fill this position quickly!

  • Ensure accurate documentation of medical records and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify diagnoses and procedures as needed.
  • Process medical billing claims efficiently to ensure timely reimbursement from insurance companies.
  • Conduct documentation reviews to maintain the integrity of medical records.
  • Provide training and support in medical coding practices as needed, including lesson planning for educational purposes.
  • Stay updated on changes in coding regulations and best practices within the healthcare industry.

Skills

  • Proficiency in Epic software is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a medical office setting is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of CPT coding, ICD coding (ICD-9 and ICD-10), HCPCS, and medical terminology.
  • Familiarity with health information management principles.
  • Ability to teach adult learners effectively, demonstrating classroom experience and lesson planning skills.
