Role Overview

The Operations Supervisor - Terminals is responsible for overseeing the efficient and safe operations of the Terminal. This role is responsible for coordinating the movement and storage of containers, managing the terminal team on site and remotely ensuring compliance with safety and operational procedures. You will be accountable for building and sustaining positive employee engagement and customer satisfaction and will play a key role in maintaining a smooth and organized workflow in the Terminal. The key to success in this role will be strong collaboration with customers, vendors, and internal teams to deliver exceptional service and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Terminal Operations & Maintenance: Supervise Terminal functions including gate operations, crane activities, shunting, and equipment upkeep. Ensure weekly scheduling, coordinate maintenance, and oversee repairs. Provide weekly updates to customers and steamship lines.
  • Team Supervision & Development: Train, coach, and engage team members (Gate Clerks, Crane Operators, etc.), ensuring compliance with safety policies. Conduct regular 1:1 meetings and facilitate ongoing health and safety training.
  • Process Optimization & Innovation: Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and implement best practices. Drive adoption of new technologies and AI-based solutions to streamline scheduling, reporting, and yard management processes.
  • Reporting: Deliver weekly Terminal dashboards and turnaround time reports to leadership. Maintain accurate records of Terminal activities and performance.
  • Vendor & Third-Party Management: Manage relationships with external vendors and customers, monitor vendor performance, and ensure service quality meets expectations.
  • Customer Service & Communication: Respond to customer inquiries, provide updates on container inventory and Terminal activities, and resolve issues efficiently to support customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Logistics or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of container or logistics experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite; strong analytical, problem-solving, and time management skills.
  • Proven leadership experience supervising staff in an operational or Terminal setting, both in person and remotely.
  • Experience with process improvement initiatives and comfort with technology/AI-based solutions for operational efficiency.
  • Strong understanding of safety procedures and compliance requirements is an asset.
