Program Manager, Theatre Arts

The Opportunity

The Banff Centre is in search of a Program Manager, Theatre Arts, that will be responsible for the advance planning and successful implementation of theatre arts programs. We are looking for someone with strong experience in dance programming.

The performing arts portfolio encompasses programming in the areas of theatre, dance, and opera. A critical success metric is translating the vision of the director and faculty into an achievable, executable, program in alignment with Banff Centre’s facilities, physical location, and staff resources. The program manager in this area should have industry experience in the theatre arts as well as an understanding of the specific requirements, operational time and resources as they relate to theatre, dance and opera.

Roles and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director, Theatre Arts, below are some key responsibilities:

Program Planning

• Support the Director in the conception and design of programs by advising on logistics, scheduling, recruitment, communication and building program budgets
• Manage the day-today project management for assigned programs and implement Banff Centre approved organizational policies, contractual requirements and systems controls, ensuring that programs are built and delivered in line with Banff Centre's design signature; creating transformative learning experiences for every participant
• Liaise with other Banff Centre departments and arrange regular cross-department meetings regarding; production schedules, staffing, Banff Centre planning, database platforms, event launch requirements and deadlines
• Develop processes for regularly communicating and reporting on program milestones, key deliverables, updates, and risk mitigation in consultation with the Director, Theatre Arts

Program Implementation

• Work closely with Program Administration, Participant Services and Human Resources in all aspects of people management as it pertains to program participants, including; recruiting, orientation and discipline to ensure policies, procedures and contractual expectations are met
• Align resource requests, planning and allocation for programs within approved plans and budgets as well as within established deadlines and in consultation with delivery areas
• Coordinate and/or participate in a regular process of program and events planning review and evaluation, that ensures the highest ethical standards in project implementation activities and make appropriate recommendations

Qualification and Educational Requirements

• 5+ years of proven program management experience, preferably within a creative environment
• University degree in an arts discipline, or related area of study
• Strong arts background in dance and theatre arts
• Experience building and managing programming budgets
• Proven analytical and interpersonal skills
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite of products with advanced Excel skills
• Solid understanding of program and events, marketing, promotion and production
• Applies good management principles in an artistic environment
• Production and or post-secondary institution experience is an asset, as is literacy across a broad range of arts disciplines
• This position may require the candidate to be available to work a flexible, irregular schedule and weekends

Employment Terms and Benefits

• In accordance with the terms of employment governing Management/PSP employees, this is a salaried, full-time position, subject to a 6-month probationary period.
• The salary range for this position is $68,714 - $102,040 based on experience.
