We are looking for a Research Associate, Nanomaterials to support activities in Transistor and Sensor Materials development in connection with Nanomaterials applications within the Security and Disruptive Technologies Research Centre. The NRC-Security and Disruptive Technology (SDT) Research Centre is seeking a Research Associate, Nanomaterials with demonstrated skills in Nanomaterial’s development, device fabrication and characterization. You will work closely with physicists, chemists and engineers to overcome challenges in the development of carbon nanotube based transistors and (bio) sensors suitable for commercial applications.

Education

As part of the RA Program you must have received your PhD in Natural Sciences, preferably in Condensed Matter Physics or in Materials Science or in Electrical Engineering within the last five years or you expect to receive the degree within the next six months.

Experience Significant experience in the design and development of organic semiconductor materials or semiconducting nanomaterials, with an emphasis on electronic device applications; Significant experience in solving research problems related to semiconductor physics, more specifically to carbon nanotubes or organic semiconductors; Significant experience performing experimental research on carbon nanotube, organic semiconductor, or 2D material based electronic devices; Significant experience on the fabrication of electronic devices; Experience on the characterization of electronic devices, including but not exclusively electrical, electrochemical and optical testing; Expertise and experience in the development and characterisation of chemical sensors and biosensors will be a plus; Experience in setting up laboratory equipment and computer interface; Experience in pursuing independent research activities; and Experience in communicating research results orally and in writing.

Note

Significant experience is defined as more than 2 years of continuing hands-on experience in a lab environment plus fundamental theoretical knowledge; Practical experience is more than 1 year of continuous hands-on experience in a lab environment. Lab courses are not considered as practical experiences. Condition of Employment

Reliability Status

Must be able to work in an ordinary laboratory environment with some hazardous materials/situations.

Candidates will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:

Technical Competencies Solid knowledge of chemistry, electrochemistry, and material interactions in the bulk, at interfaces and on surfaces; Demonstrated knowledge of semiconductor physics, with a strong emphasis on electronic properties of Nanomaterials; Demonstrated knowledge of electronic testing equipment; Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory equipment/computer interface; and Knowledge of design and development of chemical sensor and biosensor testing system would be an asset. Compensation

The intent of this hiring action is to staff through the Research Associate (RA) Program at the RCO-2/AsRO level, which is an early-career level position with a salary range of $73,133 to $101,569.

NOTE: Salary determination will be based on a review of the candidate’s expertise, outcomes and impacts of their previous work experience relative to the requirements of the level. As a guide, the current annual PhD recruiting rate is $73,133.
