Job Description

Pacific Coast Auto a used car export company based in Yokohama. We are searching for a replacement Sales Manager to lead our sales team. This is a full time, “seishaiin” position.

We are a small-sized company based in Yokohama Japan with 9 staff members. We specialize in niche vehicles such as sports cars, off roaders, and classic cars. We sell primarily to Western countries such as Canada, USA, and Europe. Our sales team is currently three people- the sales manager, and two sales reps. Our sales team is known for giving customers exceptionally high levels of service, and for upholding high ethical standards.

Our customers purchase vehicles from used car auctions in Japan. The job of the sales team is to work together with customers to -

  • Teach customers the process of purchasing from auctions
  • Offer feedback or advice on the vehicles
  • Give price estimates
  • Give after-sales service
  • Partake in bidding – tracking, bidding, etc
  • Other office jobs

The sales manager is responsible for the success of the company sales in several aspects -

  • Do direct sales and support for important customers
  • Oversee and manage a team of sales reps
  • Manage regular meetings and training with sales team
  • Take part in hiring decisions
  • Take part in marketing decisions

The ideal candidate is someone that excels in working for a small company, where dynamic problem solving and is important. You need to understand the full picture, and be smart about how you work within the company. You should be experienced in managing people in a way that helps them grow into better employees over time. We want a manager that has refined their soft-skills in working with staff and customers, and isn’t looking to flex their job title to force results. You should be likable, charismatic, and ready to work hard when it’s needed. Teach people how to come together to form a strong team. This position is pivotal for the success of the company, so be ready to take on that burden, but also enjoy the reverence of your actions making a difference in a growing company.

Because we deal in classic and enthusiast cars, you should be well versed in these cars. Our sales reps must be car enthusiasts themselves, and the manager should be the same. You should have years of experience and interest in cars because our clients rely on us to be the experts.

Salary

This position has a base salary and a bonus tied to the number of sales accumulated by the sales team. The bonus is paid every 6 months.

  • Yearly salary is 6,000,000 yen + sales bonus
  • Yearly bonus is set as a multiplier of the number of car sales by the sales team you manage. Currently, this is 2,000,000 yen (based on 2024 sales numbers)
  • Total remuneration is 8,000,000 yen per year (based on current sales rate)
  • Regular salary increases on a yearly basis
  • Public transport allowance – up to 25,000 yen per month

Work conditions and other benefits

  • Typical work hours are 5 days a week, Monday-Friday 8:30 – 5:30
  • 50% national pension and healthcare
  • Regular paid days off (up to 20 per year)
  • Approx. 26 holidays per year including 1 week for Golden Week, 1 week for Obon, and 2 weeks covering Christmas and New Years)
