Job Description

About the Position

The office of the Member of Parliament for Québec-Centre is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join the team as a part-time Parliamentary Assistant.

This position combines three complementary areas of responsibility:

  • Parliamentary Support: assist the MP with work in the House of Commons, in committees, and in the constituency.
  • Communications: oversee internal and external communications, ensure the MP’s visibility, and deliver clear, consistent, and strategic messages.
  • Administration: manage day-to-day operations of the Hill office (mail, calls, room bookings, security, meeting preparation).

Candidate Profile

Reporting to the MP and senior staff, the Parliamentary Assistant plays an active role in both communications and parliamentary support.

The ideal candidate:

  • has strong writing skills and a solid grasp of strategic and operational communications;
  • demonstrates a keen interest in political and community affairs;
  • brings experience in a political or institutional environment (a strong asset).

The role includes managing internal and external communications, as well as providing direct support to the MP in parliamentary duties in Ottawa and in the riding. The position requires autonomy, rigor, flexibility, and the ability to manage multiple files in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and analysis on political and social issues, and prepare briefing notes.
  • Support the MP in parliamentary work, both in the House and in committees.
  • Draft, design, and disseminate content (social media, newsletters, public communications).
  • Collaborate with other team members to deliver Québec-Centre projects.
  • Assist in organizing and covering MP events, particularly in Ottawa.
  • Review documents and correspondence to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Working Conditions

  • Part-time position (approximately 25 hours per week, mandatory presence on Wednesdays).
  • Salary: to be determined based on experience.

Qualifications

Education

  • Completed or pursuing a university degree in political science, public affairs, law, communications, journalism, or a related field.

Skills and Experience

  • Strong research, analytical, and synthesis skills.
  • Good knowledge of the Canadian political environment and strong interest in current affairs.
  • Experience in communications and strategic writing (speeches, media relations, social media).
  • Competent in both languages.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Discretion, diplomacy, and strong political judgment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with multimedia or graphic tools is an asset.

Additional Information

  • A security clearance is required for all parliamentary employees.
  • We thank all applicants for submitting their application. Only candidates selected for the next stage will be contacted.
  • This posting will remain open until all needs are met. Candidates may be contacted at any time for further assessment.
