The Office of the State Attorney for the Ninth Judicial Circuit is represented by The Honorable Monique H. Worrell and serves Orange and Osceola counties in Central Florida. Job Summary:
The Diversion Paralegal will be responsible for the legal analysis and management of criminal cases. This role involves reviewing investigative reports, sworn statements, and evidence received from law enforcement, identifying key details, and preparing case summaries. In some cases, the paralegal will make charging recommendations and collaborate with law enforcement to gather evidence needed for effective prosecution. The ideal candidate will assist attorneys with legal research, draft legal documents, and manage various diversion programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze criminal cases by reviewing investigative reports, sworn statements, and evidence provided by law enforcement.
  • Write concise case synopsis and, when appropriate, make charging recommendations.
  • Task law enforcement to gather necessary evidence for prosecution.
  • Communicate with other state agencies to obtain additional evidence or statements.
  • Prepare legal documents to support case progression.
  • Assist attorneys with legal research and case preparation.
  • Create and manage contracts for the Pretrial Intervention Program, ensuring all necessary parties sign and submit via Dropbox.
  • Review, update, and approve diversion cases in the Advent system, ensuring accurate documentation at every stage.
  • Maintain and manage the diversion mailbox, responding to inquiries and processing case updates.
  • Evaluate cases for eligibility in diversion programs and close out cases once completed.
  • Collaborate with Assistant State Attorneys (ASAs), other paralegals, and diversion partners to ensure timely processing and successful completion of diversion programs.

Qualifications:

  • Strong legal research and writing skills.
  • Familiarity with case management system
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive legal matters with discretion and professionalism.

Minimum Training and Experience:

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university in criminal justice, legal studies, social services, or psychology;
  • OR graduation from an accredited four-year college or university and successful completion of a legal assistant education program approved by the American Bar Association;
  • OR graduation from a professional school of law accredited by the American Bar Association;
  • OR graduation from an accredited two-year college and successful completion of a paralegal certification program.
