The Patient Transporter will be transporting patients throughout the local area to and from Nisqually Generations Healing Center appointments in a safe and timely manner. Drivers will be guided by established schedules and follow state laws as well as organizational policies. This position ensures confidentiality, security, and accuracy of records, and promotes positive employee, customer, and community relations. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required and outstanding customer service to fellow employees, customers, vendors, etc. is expected. Regular attendance is required, later hours or weekend time may be required, and a neat well-groomed professional appearance is essential at all times.
Primary responsibilities include: transporting patients inside and outside of the facility to designated areas in a punctual and timely manner; ensuring that patient transportation is conducted with the utmost care and in full compliance with all traffic laws and regulations; instructing passengers in requisite safety precautions and practices while riding in Nisqually Wellness Center vehicles; establishing and maintaining communication with patients and coworkers to improve quality of service and customer satisfaction; comforting patients and their families by offering support and encouragement; demonstrating caring and cultural sensitivity; respecting and protecting patient confidence and hospital confidentiality by keeping all sensitive and patient information private; following all protocols and procedures to ensure safe delivery of patients, their possessions, supplies and laboratory specimens; operating the wheelchair lift in accordance with established safety procedures and protocols; maintaining discipline, reporting all passenger behavior issues to management; conducting mechanical condition inspections daily; ensuring that assigned vehicles meet regular maintenance schedules and keep operational records; immediately reporting all delays and any accidents incurred; and performing other duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications include: being 21 years of age or older; holding a high school diploma or equivalent; having complete drivers' abstract history from Washington DOL with five (5) years of verifiable driving experience; having one-year work experience in medical/para transport, passenger transport, emergency vehicle operation, or relevant experience; being current CPR qualified or completing first aid and CPR certification within the first 60 days; possessing a valid Washington State Driver's license and maintaining a driving record that meets the minimum requirements established by Nisqually Indian Tribes vehicle insurance provider; successfully passing a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check; and the ability to work with vulnerable populations including adults and children. Must pass a State and National (FBI) criminal history background check prior to employment.
Preferred qualifications include: knowledge of the Nisqually Indian Tribe's history, customs, traditions, and ability to demonstrate cultural sensitivity; and experience working with Federally Recognized Tribes.
